Techniques and materials
We use a range of wood types suitable for the role in making each product. These can vary a little from time to time depending on the materials available for purchase. Many of our pieces are made from decking wood, which is very suitable for the role of wood products such as planters by being well treated and containing grooves for natural runaway for moisture.
Our products are made using screws and dowels for a strong, clean finish. We do not make our products using joinery techniques such as tenon and mortice joints. We believe that our techniques result in good, long-lasting products and also allow for a cost effectiveness. This cost effectiveness allows us to keep our prices lower than what they otherwise would be using more time-consuming joinery. If it is important to you that your products are made using joinery techniques, you should look elsewhere for right product to suit you.
Information and disclaimer on bespoke items / sizes and commission pieces
We are happy to undertake work which may include bespoke or unusual design or sizing from our 'standard sizing'. Please be aware that such commissions are made on the agreement that they cannot be returned to us. We can send photos of completed bespoke items to you for a final 'sign off' if requested, before sending out to be delivered to you.
You must also ensure that you have suitable access into your property / the desired room for any products you order from us, as items cannot be returned for access reasons.
Where sizes are specified by the customer, these are assumed to be the total dimensions to be made, which will include any fixtures or fittings which are to be added to any product or design (unless specified otherwise by customer).
If you request an ambiguous colour which is not from our specific colour range (e.g. you request just 'Green' rather than Farrow & Ball 'Breakfast Room Green'), we will distinguish the shade from our available colours unless you specify otherwise.
We reserve the right in all instances (bespoke or otherwise) to cancel an order at our discretion before items have been sent. A full refund will be sent in such circumstances.
Information and disclaimer on our paints and finishes
Every care is taken to ensure a good paint finish on our products. Our products are finished by spray and/or brush, and will therefore contain signs of this manual process, including brush marks and other blemishes.
We finish in colours according to the Farrow & Ball colour chart as standard, but are happy to finish in other brands of paint, including Little Green and Annie Sloan. As standard use the best paint in the industry, and mix to all colours. Beside a quick visual check on the colour, we will not be held responsible for any issues regarding colour matching.
If you have another brand of paint you'd like to use, just ask. We will ask a profession paint mixer to match the colour, though we will not be held liable for any slight colour indiscretions you may feel arise from this process.
Please note that we can normally finish to any Farrow & Ball colour old and new, but we do ask for a nominal fee of £15 to source archived or special edition colours. Where it cannot be sourced, we will aim to mix it to the requested colour - but we will not be held responsible for any colour seeming to be not quite the correct shade in this event.
Information and disclaimer on our wood products
Our products are made from wood. Wood is a natural product which will contain imperfections and by it's nature will not be perfect. If you're looking for something that is 'perfect' you are better off going with something made from plastic. If you enjoy the feel, character and natural charm of wood, then go please go ahead and order.
Wood is a natural product that responds to temperature and humidity variations by expanding and contracting. Sometimes these changes may be noticeable in the physical appearance of the product. All our products are made from wood, and will contain their own unique variations in every piece.
Although every care is taken to ensure our products are able to handle the weather, it can affect the wood products you buy from us. Your items can experience movements and cracks as it adjusts - this is not a fault, but a natural occurrence within the fibres of a natural product.
Your items will age better if protected from the elements, particular in Autumn and Winter. Where feasible, the lifetime of your item will increase if covers, such as tarpaulin, are used to protect from the worst weather. As with any finished exterior wood surface (e.g. fence panels, window sills etc.), they will periodically require refinishing to look their best and keep a high level of protection. The longevity of the finish depends on a wide range of factors, including your location, the position of the item, the extremity of the seasons etc.
All wood products are produced using timber that is treated to reasonably protect against issues such as insects and rot, but the risk of these issues these cannot be removed entirely. If any issues are found to exist on your products, we recommend treating the affected areas with suitable repellent chemicals to help minimise the risk of any further issues. Having taken all reasonable steps to avoid this such issues, we cannot be held liable for any related damage caused.
Wood Species
With at least 23,000 different species of tree in the world, it can therefore be difficult to 100% assert the type of wood used in any of our products. Other than any oak, pine or tropical hardwood, we cannot guarantee the species of any of the wood products we sell. Where a wood type is listed, this is our 'best guess', but this by no means guarantees the species of a particular piece of wood.
Painted products
In most cases we use tough water-based eggshell-type paint on our products. Our paints are mixed to the exact shade according to the Farrow & Ball colour chart. These paints may be water, solvent or oil based depending on the requirements and availability of materials.
